How do CBD gummies work?
Before we talk dosage, here’s a quick overview of how CBD gummies work.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a substance extracted from the oil of the hemp plant. It can be used to make a variety of products like CBD oil, capsules, creams, balms, and of course, gummies.
To make ZenBears CBD gummies, we first make delicious gummy bears using vegan ingredients and all-natural flavourings. Some brands mix CBD directly into their gummies, but we prefer to supercharge ours with a CBD coating (more on that later!).
CBD gummies are eaten just like regular sweets. Some of the CBD is absorbed into your bloodstream through the blood vessels in your mouth, and the rest is absorbed via your digestive system and liver.
How many gummy bears should I eat?
If you’re new to CBD, it’s best to start low and go slow until you know how CBD affects you. 10mg of CBD (half a ZenBear) is a good place to start.
See how it makes you feel over the next couple of hours. It’s important to wait before taking any more as you want to give CBD a chance to work. But if you don’t feel any effects, try taking 20mg (one full ZenBear) and see how you react.
Keep slowly and steadily increasing your dose like this until you get a dose that’s comfortable and effective for you. For most people, this is around 10-40mg of CBD. If at any point you feel like the effects are too strong, you can always drop back down to your last comfortable dose.
Can I take more than one dose a day?
Yes! If you want to experience subtle benefits throughout the day, you can take CBD gummies two or three times a day as needed.
If you’re taking several small doses a day, it can be easy to lose track of how much CBD you’ve had. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) recommends that adults take no more than 70mg of CBD daily (for reference, that would be 3.5 ZenBears). We’re not aware of any dangers from taking a higher daily dose, but you should still be mindful of how much CBD you’re taking overall.
How long do CBD gummies take to start working?
This depends on a few things. Some of the CBD in gummies is absorbed in your mouth, but the majority has to pass through your digestive system and liver in order to reach the bloodstream.
This generally takes around 30 minutes, but it’s quicker on an empty stomach. If you recently ate, though, you could be waiting up to an hour.
Earlier, we mentioned that we coat ZenBears with CBD, rather than mixing it in. We do this because we’ve found that coating improves speed and absorption. More of the CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream from your mouth, which means it gets to work faster, and you don’t lose quite as much through digestion.
How long do the effects of CBD gummies last?
On average, you can expect the effects of CBD gummies to last around four to eight hours. They’re perfect if you’re looking for a lasting CBD hit throughout the day, as opposed to the more intense but short-lived effects you’d get from CBD oils.
How many CBD gummies should I eat? There’s no universal “ideal” dose of CBD. If you’re new to CBD, start low at around 10mg, see how you feel, and slowly build up to the dose that feels best for you.
